Andrew & Tanya Rokeby

Andrew and Tanja are church planting missionaries sent to Japan by New West Community Church in BC. Both were raised in Christian families and received Christ and were baptized as children. Andrew was born and raised in northern Ontario and Tanja on Vancouver Island in BC.

In May 2011, Andrew traveled to Japan for the first time working through FAIR to participate in relief and evangelism in coastal communities affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. After returning from Japan, the Holy Spirit began to convict Andrew of his desire for a comfortable life and he began to give serious thought to missions. He enrolled at Northwest Baptist Seminary (NBS) in Fall 2012 after completing his undergraduate studies in biology.

Before meeting Andrew, Tanja was studying towards an MA in Humanities at Trinity Western University. She was considering a career in teaching but thought she would better understand God’s will for her life once she met her husband.

Andrew met Tanja during his first week of studies at NBS and they were married 11 months later. After graduating, they served alongside church planters in Japan for five months (2015/2016).

Firmly believing that the local church is the means and the end of missions, Andrew and Tanja went through a lengthy process of discernment and evaluation with their elders and were consecrated for missionary service in November 2019. The Rokebys were appointed for service in Japan with Fellowship International in April 2020 and deployed to the field in January 2024.
